Christmas Recycling
Oh the sweet joy of setting up a beautiful Christmas tree.
The family time spent around it and memories/traditions are treasures. Fast forward to January and there is an equal but different joy that comes from taking down and cleaning up around that same tree. Not necessarily a memory making or tradition making joy but more of a satisfying moving on to the next season joy. Here on the farm we are always looking for ways to not have things end up in a landfill. Looking for ways to recycle.
Christmas trees end up along the side of the road for most or on a bonfire pile waiting for next summer. Here at Rowandale we like to give our goats the trees. Pine needles provide trace nutrients, antioxidants, minerals, and forage. Pine is good for intestinal worm control and high vitamin C so talk about recycling!!
We are at the end of taking in trees for our herd but there is always next year!! Ask around at other farms…I would bet there are many like us who would welcome a tree or two to boost the nutrition of their herd and give you another tradition to add to your Christmas! A visit to a goat farm.
It’s amazing to me how we are all connected. Think about how incredible it is that goats can and love eating pine trees. That they can recycle them for us. What a gift!
Job 12:7-10
“But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;
or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
or let the fish in the sea inform you.
Which of all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
In his hand is the life of every creature
and the breath of all mankind.
Have an amazing day today…..be kind….be open to seeing the people around you and help them when you can.
